The month of September shows some interesting differences compared to previous months in the China shrimp imports table:
In September, the number of imported FCL containers remains stable at around 3,700 containers. The substantial increase in exports to China from India with 801 FCL is very striking, which is significantly higher than previous months. In contrast, some of the other supplier countries, such as Saudi Arabia and Peru, decrease their shipments in September compared to previous months. This could be due to commercial or seasonal factors in their respective aquaculture industries.
Consistency with the annual trend: Despite the monthly variation, September fits into the general trend of increasing imports as the year progresses. This could indicate increased demand for shrimp in China towards the end of the year or preparation for the festival and celebration season.
Countries of Origin
Although shrimp imports from Ecuador are also notable, they decrease compared to previous months and it is important to highlight that for the first time so far this year they are below 70% of the total, especially due to the significant increase in imports from India.

As we have mentioned before, in September, the total number of FCL containers imported into China decreases compared to previous months. This is particularly evident in the provinces of Guangdong, Shandong and Zhejiang, which have been major recipients in previous months.
Increase in other provinces: Although overall import decreases, some provinces such as Beijing or Tianjin show an increase in imports in September compared to previous months. This could indicate a change in the distribution of imports to provinces other than the usual ones.
Continuity of Shandong and Guangdong: Despite the decrease in September, Shandong and Guangdong remain the two main recipient provinces of Ecuadorian shrimp in China.

It is important to look into the exceptional month of September for Indian imports in China compared to previous months. Although Guangdong and Zhejiang remain the main destinations, in September, it is very significant that Guangdong, which is traditionally the main destination for Indian exports, suffers a slight decrease, and the increase is observed in the rest of the provinces, including Shandong, Fujian, Tianjin and Liaoning. It is important to highlight the increase in the province of Zhejiang, which practically doubles the volume of its imports, reaching 221 containers, falling just short of surpassing Guangdong, which with 240 containers remains the main destination for Indian exports.
The reasons for the strong increase are mainly motivated by the consumption of Black Tiger Prawn and the lack of this type of product from other origins that traditionally exported greater quantities to China such as Vietnam. All this suggests that the increase in demand for Indian shrimp is not focused on one region but is being distributed across several regions in China.
