China’s frozen shrimp imports slowed down in September.

According to the latest statistics of China Customs, the import of frozen warm water shrimp in China slowed down in September. However, it still maintained nearly double the growth level compared with the same period last year.

According to Chinese customs data, China imported 87,000 metric tons of frozen warm shrimp in September, lower than the record import volume of 95,000 tons in August. The reason for the decline in China’s imports is that the supply of Ecuador declined slightly. Ecuador’s shrimp supply was 51,000 tons, compared with 54,000 tons in August. Compared with August, the import volume from India also decreased from 30,000 tons to 20,300 tons.

Nevertheless, the import volume from Ecuador and India in that month was still much higher than that of the same period last year, because the surge in import volume in this summer continued to autumn. Compared with September 2021, imports from Ecuador and India increased by 112% and 80% respectively in September this year.

In terms of value, although the average import value rose slightly, China’s monthly import value fell to 581 million US dollars in September, down 7% from August. Compared with September 2021, the monthly import value increased by 102%. Among them, China imported $343 million worth of shrimp from Ecuador, up 118% year on year, and $141 million from India, up 102% year on year. Imports from Thailand, Vietnam, Argentina, Saudi Arabia and other large supplier countries in September were also higher than the same period last year.
