World Aquaculture Day: Celebrating Innovation in the Canary Islands

Fostering innovation and sustainability in aquaculture

We recently had the honor of attending an insightful round table discussion on innovation and sustainability in aquaculture, hosted in the Canary Islands. This gathering, a key feature of the national celebration of #WorldAquacultureDay, was among a series of events organized by ECOAQUA, a distinguished research institute. Our Director of Business Development, Pablo Resnik, was there to represent Roda International and contribute to this vital dialogue on shaping the future of aquaculture.

Convergence of aquaculture experts

Hosted by Juan Ramón Rodriguez of BIOASIS Gran Canaria, the round table brought together prominent figures from the aquaculture sector. Esteemed participants included Ricardo Haroun Tabraue of ECOAQUA, Hector Pula from the Spanish Society of Aquaculture (SEA), and Antonio La Barbera of Aquanaria. Pablo Resnik’s participation underscored Roda’s commitment to innovative approaches and sustainable practices in the industry.

Insightful discussions and learning

Keynote speeches by industry leaders such as Alex Obach from Skretting and Matt Craze of Undercurrent News added depth to the discussion. They addressed the industry’s challenges in consumer perception and the importance of financial support for sustainable growth in aquaculture.

Broad perspectives on industry collaboration

The event was also marked by the presence of influential figures like Alejandro Báez Acosta and Sebastian Lopez, highlighting the collaborative efforts in the sector and the importance of combining expertise for sustainable advancements in aquaculture.

Celebration of collaboration and progress

The round table concluded with a tasting of aquaculture products, courtesy of Aquanaria and Roda International. This symbolized the successful collaboration and shared objectives of the sector’s key stakeholders.

Forward-looking vision for aquaculture

This event not only reflected on the current state of aquaculture but also set the stage for future developments. With Roda International playing a pivotal role, we are excited about the new sustainable and innovative practices that will emerge in the field of aquaculture.

Special acknowledgment

A special thank you to Juan Manuel Afonso, director of the Aquaculture Research Group at ECOAQUA, for organizing this significant event and advancing aquaculture innovation in the Canary Islands.
