ChinaTip #0725

This year, frozen items returned due to viruses reached 249 batches. More than 1/3 are vannamei shrimp.

Recently, the frequency of imported cold chain foods detected positive for coronavirus nucleic acid has improved significantly.

According to the Chinese customs, the imported cold chain foods that were detected positive for covid-19 from January 1 to April 13 reached 249 batches.

Among the products detected positive, frozen aquatic products represented the absolute dominance: except for 8 batches of frozen meat, the remaining 241 batches are frozen aquatic products. Among them, frozen Vannamei shrimp had 92 batches, frozen squid had 43 batches, and frozen ribbon fish had 33 batches.

What countries do these products come from? Since the beginning of this year, products that have tested positive for covid-19 have come from 11 countries. Products from India, Vietnam and Ecuador accounted for up to 76%, more than three quarters of the total.

Judging by the number of times companies have been suspended, some companies are actually “high risk”, such as 8503, 41068, 6792 in Ecuador; Vietnamese DL 529, HK 780; 1290, 1164, 1241 from India; all have been suspended many times and for a long time.  We say that these companies are “high risk”, not only because they have been banned many times, but in the long run, if similar problems appear again, these companies will affect the cooperation with importers from China.
