The pollock industry is expected to rebound now that the port of Dalian is reopened to Russian bulk carriers.

Dalian officially opened its port to Russian bulk carriers on January 10, resuming Russian pollock operations after more than a year of ban.

In the fall of 2020, Dalian and Qingdao port restricted the entry of Russian bulk carriers to deliver goods due to COVID-19.

Regarding the reopening of Dalian Port, the media commented that China and Russia have found an effective and low-cost risk control method. “The Russian Pollock and Liaoyu Group will be the biggest beneficiaries,” according to the OIG Institute, a Chinese market research and import service agency. According to statistics from the Port Authority, Liaoyu Group imports more than 800,000 tons of aquatic products every year, accounting for 60% of the national total.
