After 17 consecutive weeks of price increases, the average farm price of size 30 vannamei in India’s main farming state of Andhra Pradesh has finally slipped slightly, according to data from Aquaconnect.
In the second week of 2022, the price of large size fell by 10 rupees per kilo to 590 rupees ($7.99)/kg. However, the price of shrimp size 40 and below continued to increase month-on-month. The price of 40 rose further by Rs 10 to Rs 500/kg; the price of 60 was stable at Rs 380/kg; the price of 80 increased by Rs 10 to Rs 310/kg; while the price of small size 100 remained at 260 Rs/kg.
Farm prices for the largest shrimp in Andhra Pradesh have been rising since August last year, as an earlier partial harvest and high demand of the United States led to a massive shortage of large-sized shrimp. Despite this week’s drop, the current price for size 30 at Rs 590/kg is still the highest since February 2016.
