China is the largest oceanic squid fishing country in the world.
In order to protect the deep-sea fishery resources and promote the long-term sustainable use of squid resources, since July 1 this year, China has tested for the first time a three-month ban on independent fishing in the relevant waters of the Southwest Atlantic. During the fishing moratorium, all Chinese ocean fishing vessels operating in the South West Atlantic Open Sea area, including squid fishing and trawlers, must cease operations.
In addition, in the relevant high seas waters of the Eastern Pacific, where the American red squid is fished, a three-month voluntary closure will also begin from September 1. Currently, all Chinese fishing vessels have been evacuated from the fishing rest area.
