Ecuador’s shrimp exports broke new records in November!

According to the National Aquaculture Association of Ecuador, last month, Ecuador exported 85,351 tons of shrimp, valued at US$582 million. This is a 21% increase from October’s shipments of 70,391 tons, and a value increase of 20% over the US$485 million of the same month.

Exports to China reached 46,373 tons, valued at US$307 million, the highest level since May 2020. The second largest export market is the United States, which imported 16,983 tons of shrimp, valued at US$126 million. Europe was the third largest market for Ecuador’s shrimp industry in November, with exports of 15,760 tons worth US$107 million. Overall, exports to the above three regions have increased by 8%, 84% and 26% respectively compared with November last year.

Ecuador’s last record export month was April 2021, when it exported 75,874 tons worth US$404 million.
Ecuador’s shrimp exports in the first 11 months of 2021 were 757,486 tons, an increase of 20% over the same period last year. In November, Ecuador’s production data exceeded all expectations and was far from the forecast of the Global Seafood Alliance’s annual survey of shrimp producing countries. It was previously expected that the production of vannamei would reach 940,000 tons this year.
