ChinaTip #0510

China’s imports of Ribbonfish in August fell 57% year-on-year.

Affected by the pandemic, China’s Ribbonfish imports declined in August by 4,359 tons year-on-year. The value of the imports registered a reduction of RMB 54.26 million year-on-year, a 55% decrease.

Current China’s Ribbonfish production cannot meet the market demand. The market is now highly dependent on the imported hairtail.

In 2019, China’s Ribbonfish import increased significantly. The annual 2019 import of 141,000 tons accounted for 13.4% of domestic consumption, while in 2011 this ratio was 8.1%.
