China’s demand for Argentine squid, Patagonian toothfish, and king crab increase sharply.

Data presented in July in the Argentina Export Report shows significant increment of China’s demand for the Argentinian seafood as follows:

Squid
Argentine squid sales have increased this year by 53.6%, and the price has also raised by 8.4% over last year. As of July 31st, Argentina had sold a total of 125,000 tons, China being the main buyer. 65,000 tons of Argentine squid were exported to China, an increase of 32.5% over last year.

Patagonian toothfish
Overall 2020 sales of Argentine toothfish have fallen by 15%, a total of 1,536 tons. But Chinese demand has increased, from 98 tons (last year) to 350 tons in first six months of 2020, a spectacular 258% growth.

King crab
The sales volume and value of this year’s Argentine king crab have both dropped by 16% compared to last year. As of July 31st, Argentina had sold a total of 1,100 tons of king crabs. The main market is still the United States, but China’s imports amounted for 515 tons, showing an increase of 228% over the previous year.
