ChinaTip #0692

Although the Chinese New Year is approaching, the price of live shrimp in some region markets has dropped.

In previous years, when Chinese New Year was approaching, it was the peak season for all kinds of live shrimp, and prices would rise.

In the largest seafood wholesale market in Zhanjiang, Guangdong, Xiashan Aquatic Products Market, the live shrimp sales area is crowded with people, and many consumers are purchasing fresh shrimp. The trader tells reporters that on the eve of Chinese New Year this year, prices for some varieties of live shrimp have fallen sharply compared to the same period last year.

Industry insiders tell reporters that since the end of October in previous years, the prices of all kinds of shrimp have risen. This year, due to the impact of the epidemic, shrimp prices began to rise after New Year’s Day. At present, due to the rise of the epidemic in various places, the market has been affected to a certain extent, and the price of shrimp is still fluctuating. On the eve of Chinese New Year in previous years, the farm-gate price of size 40 live shrimp was 60-80 yuan /kg, but at present it is only more than 40 yuan per kg.
