Successful Development of Triploid Oysters in Zhangzidao

In recent years, a new variety of triploid oysters has begun to flourish. This variety has the advantages of fast growth, strong resistance, full meat, beautiful shell shape, edible seasons, etc. This oyster industry has brought new vigor and vitality, gradually replacing the traditional diploid oysters and becoming the new favorite of fishermen.

Triploid oysters are produced by the hybridization of tetraploid and diploid oysters.  This technology has been industrialized in various countries around the world for many years. Triploid oysters currently account for 80% of the artificial seedlings in France or 40% of the entire French oyster market, 30% in Australia, and 30% to 50% in the United States. China is the world’s largest oyster farming country, but triploid oyster farming started late.

The successful cultivation of triploid oysters symbolizes the breaking of the seasonal constraints of diploid oysters in traditional farming and meeting the broad consumer demand in the market.
