Although exports fell in January 2022 compared to previous months, Ecuador started 2022 proving that its business in China has resumed.
According to the January 2022 export data released by Ecuador, exports to China reached 40,112 tons, 8% lower than the previous month’s exports but up 215% year-on-year.
The recovery in Chinese demand was also reflected in the price of imports from China in January, which rose by $1.49/kg year-on-year to $6.26/kg. Prices also rose by $0.12 compared to the previous month, indicating strong demand in China in January.
While import restrictions remain in place today, most exporters already know how to deal with them months after they were implemented.
