In 2022, 74% of China’s imported frozen shrimp came from Ecuador. Ecuador is currently the largest exporter of vannamei. Among them, INDUSTRIAL PESQUERA SANTA PRISCILA S.A. (SANTA) is the largest supplier in China.
From January to May 2022 (the latest data to May), a total of 39 companies in Ecuador exported vannanmei shrimp, with a total export volume of 270,000 tons and an export value of 2.75 billion US dollars.
Among them, the export volume of SANTA to China was 38,000 tons, accounting for 14%, ranking first; the export value was 540 million US dollars, accounting for 20%, ranking first. It can be said that among the Ecuadorian suppliers of frozen shrimp imported from China, Santa can be called the double champion, maintaining a long-term leading edge. The second is EXPORTQUILSA & PRODUCTORES ASCOCIADOS S.A., the third is OPERADORA Y PROCESADORA DE PRODUCTOS MARINOS OMARSA S.A. The forth is SOCIEDAD NACIONAL D E GALAPAGOS C.A. SONGA. The fifth is CAMAR-EXPO S.A.
However, judging from the proportion of Ecuadorian suppliers’ exports to China in previous years, Santa’s proportion has dropped from more than 20% to 14% this year. Affected by the customs suspension measures for covid, Santa’s exports to China showed a downward trend year-on-year.
In the first half of the year (the latest data to May), Santa exported aquatic products to 23 countries in total, with a total of 4,099 export orders, an export volume of 85,000 tons, and an export value of more than 1.2 billion US dollars. Among them, China and the United States are the main purchasing countries, and China is the largest exporter of Santa.
In the statistics of the export destination ports of Santa, more than 60% of the orders are sent to Tianjin Xingang, which had an absolute advantage in export volume and export value; followed by Busan, Qingdao and Zhanjiang ports, the total proportion of these four ports has reached 90%.
Affected by the epidemic prevention and control policy, Santa’s exports to China dropped significantly from April to May, and the overall data dropped from last year. However, the demand for shrimp in China is still very large. Ecuador is also the largest supplier of imported shrimp to China, of which Santa is the largest supplier.
