Santa, Omarsa and Songa in the top 3 of the 2021 Ecuadorian ranking.

In 2021, the export volume of Ecuadorian vananmei shrimp set a historical record. In the first 10 months, the total export volume reached 672,100 tons, a year-on-year increase of 31%; the cumulative export value reached 3.9 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 19%.

Judging from the market distribution this year, Ecuador’s dependence on the Chinese market has dropped from 53% to 45%, the US market share has increased from 18% to 22%, and the European market has increased by 1% to 24%. The combined EU and US markets surpassed China for the first time.

Among Ecuador’s national vananmei shrimp export companies, Santa Priscila, Omarsa and Songa are among the top three companies. The export volume in the first 10 months increased by 5%, 3% and 9% respectively over the whole year of 2019.

These three companies together account for 37% of Ecuador’s export share.

Santa Priscila produced 114,000 tons in the first 10 months, Omarsa ranked second with 80,000 tons, and Songa’s output was about 57,000 tons, ranking third. Expalsa’s production fell from 64,000 tons in 2019 to 32,000 tons, ranking fifth. In addition, some small-scale companies with production of 5,000 to 16,000 tons have grown rapidly, including Promaoro, ExportQuilsa, and Natluk.
