According to the Times of India, many Indian exporters of frozen products finally agreed with the Chinese regulatory authorities to inspect the packaging of their exported frozen products.
It was previously reported that about 1,000-1,200 Indian white shrimp containers are stranded in Chinese ports, with an average of 16 tons of frozen shrimp per container, with a total value of more than 12 billion Indian rupees. Indian exporters can only receive full payment after the goods reach the destination.
According to reports, about 34 Indian containers were returned by Chinese customs and are returning to India. This batch of products is specially prepared for the Chinese market, and there are no other customers besides Chinese buyers.
The Secretary General of the Seafood Export Association of India (SEAI) advises exporters to avoid the Chinese market as much as possible. “Many containers will be returned, and there are still too many uncertainties. There are also difficulties in payment, and the funds are temporarily held in China.”
The current trade situation has caused many Indian seafood export companies to be deeply worried. Indian small-size vannamei shrimp (over 80) are usually only sold to China, and it is difficult for exporters to find an alternative market. The situation this year is particularly not optimistic. The epidemic in India has had a negative impact on the production cycle. Farmers panic harvesting has flooded the market of small-sized white shrimp, which accounted for 70% of its circulation.
