This week, some Chinese importers began to place orders under the assumption of continuous decline of Ecuador’s quotation. The order price of Semi IQF frozen vannamei shrimp is basically:
30/40 $4.51/kg
40/50 $4.31/kg
50/60 $4.11/kg
Although the orders have started to increase, the production of white shrimp in Ecuador is not very large at present.
At the beginning of this week, although there were some orders for Headless shrimp from Ecuador, they were all for small size, basically below 40-50 size. The main size of the order of Head-on shrimp is 30/40, and the main packaging is Semi IQF 1.4kg, 1.8kg and Brine frozen 12kg.
Factory Omasa has received a lot of orders recently, but there is no quotation for Brine frozen at present. A smaller factory may still be short of orders.
As the demand of the three major markets in China, the United States and Europe continues to weaken, the price of Ecuadorian shrimp has entered a dynamic of continuous and rapid decline for some time. There are even shrimp farmers in Guayas Province planning to strike to express their dissatisfaction with the current market.
A farmer in Guayas Province said: “Many of us are in trouble again because the investment and transportation costs are too high. Government officials are always proud when talking about this industry, but when the industry begins to sink, they choose to abandon it.”
The next harvest of Ecuador’s vannamei shrimp will come in early December, but some shrimp farmers have organized a nationwide strike on Facebook and WhatsApp group, which is expected to take place on December 7.
