Ecuador started a large shrimp harvest this weekend.

Prices in general increased, mainly for sizes 30 and 40.

The strong demand for those particular sizes of shrimp caused their prices to rise. This, in turn, caused prices for other sizes to rise as well due to the domino effect.

What is the reason for the price increase?

Chinese news about a recovering market and some orders being placed generated a burst of optimism among farmers and factories.

In addition to American supermarkets, large orders are placed here.

The Chinese government has lifted all COVID-19 restrictions on imported seafood, allowing factories in Ecuador that previously stopped exporting to China to continue to do so.

As a result, small and medium importers who were afraid to import products will now reactivate their activities.

The Chinese are celebrating Chinese New Year right now, and we’ll get an indication after the holidays od actual market demand in that region.

Due to the low season in India, the harvest is limited, which does not affect the market.
