The export value of Vietnamese Basa fish to China dropped by 22.6% year-on-year.

From January to August 2020, the total value of Vietnam’s Basa fish exports to Hong Kong, China, reached US$271 million, a decrease of 22.6% from the same period of last year.

Affected by the pandemic, the export of Vietnamese Basa fish to China has slowed down. The import quantity in the first five months of 2020 was 69,000 tons, which is less than the import quantity corresponding to the period August – December 2019. The value of imports from August -December 2019 has reached US$ 257 millions, double than the value of imports from January to May 2020.

Currently, nearly 120 Vietnamese companies export Basa fish to China, among which the three largest export companies are IDI Corp, TG Fisheries and GODACO.

At present, the export of Vietnam’s Basa fish to China is still slowly recovering. However, it is expected that this year, the total value of Vietnam’s Basa fish exports to the Chinese market will not show a positive increase, compared with the same period of last year.
