ChinaTip #0221

China’s Seafood imports fell by 27% in the first quarter of 2020, but consumption prospects are favorable

According to the latest data from China Customs, the import value of Chinese seafood in the first quarter of 2020 was 22.8 billion, a decrease of 27% from the fourth quarter of 2019.

In 2019, imports of crustaceans may exceed imports of whole frozen fish. China ’s frozen fish imports are mainly used for re-exports, but imported crustaceans are mainly used for domestic consumption, which shows that with the expansion of China’s middle class, the future has great growth potential.
