In the first quarter, China’s vannamei shrimp imports reached 174,000 tons, an increase of 30%.

According to Chinese customs data, in the first quarter of 2022, China imported 174,000 tons of frozen vannamei shrimp, an increase of about 30% year-on-year, and the import value reached US$1.13 billion, an increase of about 57% year-on-year.

The import volume from Ecuador was the highest, reaching 125,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 36%, accounting for 72% of the total import; the import value increased by 73% year-on-year to US$797 million.

The import volume of Indian vannamei shrimp (mainly head less shrimp) was 22,100 tons, a year-on-year increase of 26%; the import value was 148 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 41%.

In March, China imported 60,000 tons of frozen vannamei shrimp, a year-on-year increase of 36%, and the import value was 390 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 68%.

The average price of imported shrimp in China in the first quarter was $6.47/kg, up 21% year-on-year; the price in March was $6.44/kg, up 23% year-on-year.
