Vietnam’s squid and octopus exports to China increase 21%.

By the end of April 2021, China is Vietnam’s fifth largest single import market for cephalopod products, accounting for 6% of total squid and octopus exports. In the past three years, Vietnam’s squid and octopus exports to China have shown a continuous growth trend. In 2020, the export volume of squid and octopus increased by nearly 61% over 2019. In 2021, this growth trend will continue.

According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, in the first four months of this year, exports to the Chinese market increased by 21% to over US$9.7 million. However, after continuous growth in the first three months of this year, Vietnam’s cephalopod products exports to China fell by 34% in April, reaching nearly US$2.8 million.

In 2021, the Covid-19 epidemic in China has been well controlled, and the Chinese government has gradually relaxed its epidemic prevention measures. Therefore, China’s demand for imported squid and octopus has recovered.

Compared with 2020, imports of dried/grilled squid from Vietnam to China continue to grow by an impressive 300%. In addition, Vietnam’s exports of fresh and frozen squid to the Chinese market have increased again.
