The Chinese shrimp “Huanghai No. 4” bred by the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute of China obtains the certificate of new aquatic product.

The researcher Li Jian from the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute teamed up with Changyi Haifeng  -Aquaculture Co. and Rizhao Haichen from Aquatic Products Co. developed and bred the  “Huanghai No.4” prawn which features a strong resistance to high pH, fast growth and high survival rate.

Compared with  “Huanghai No. 1” and “Huanghai No. 3”, this new species has an average increase of 32.2% and respectively 16.3% in survival rate under high pH (9.2). Under the same breeding conditions, the harvest weight increased by 5.1% and 10.7%, respectively, and the survival rate increased by 20.3% and 13.6%, respectively.

Since 2004, when the first prawn bred by the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research was certificated, China launched five new prawn species.
