Reliance on the Chinese market decreases, and the price of Ecuadorian vannamei continues to rise.

According to the latest data on the UCN price portal, the prices of large and medium-sized Ecuadorian vannamei have risen again.

As of the 21st week of 2021 (May 24-30), the average delivery price of 20/30 headed and shelled has risen to $6.20/kg; the 30/40 is $5.20/ kg; 40/50 is $4.70 /kg; 50/60 is $4.15 /kg; 60/70 is $3.60 /kg.

China used to be Ecuador’s main export market, and due to the impact of covid-19, it dropped by 34% in the second half of 2020 to approximately 138,000 tons. Although China is still an important market for Ecuador, producers are not relying on exports to China as they did in previous years. At present, Ecuador has significantly increased its shrimp exports to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Russia as part of the goal of further diversification. With the gradual recovery of the European and American markets and the decline in capacity of competitor India, the price of Ecuadorian vannamei is expected to continue to rise.
