ChinaTip #0468

Imported frozen Vannamei shrimp market in China may recover in the second half of the year.

Recently, the price of imported frozen Vannamei shrimp in China started to increase. Importers and distributors in the second and third markets have raised the price of imported frozen: 1.4kg Semi-IQF Vannamei shrimp by 5-10 rmb per carton.

After 2-3 months of sharp decline in imports, importers and distributors expressed that the turning point is close.

The COVID-19 infestation cases detected on the outer packaging and container inner wall of imported Ecuadorian Vannamei shrimp had a big impact on the consumption of Vannamei shrimp.

However, as the China’s best-selling and most popular aquatic product, consumption of Vannamei shrimp has never stopped. Coupled with the upcoming National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays, it is expected that the imported Vannamei shrimp market will rebound.
