ChinaTip #0498

Ecuadorian shrimp exports to China in August increased by 49% compared to July.

According to the Ecuadorian Aquaculture Chamber of Commerce, in August, Ecuador exported about 13,000 tons to China, a decrease of 63% from August 2019. However, exports in August increased 49% compared to July. This is a clear indication that the Chinese market demand is gradually picking up and consumer confidence is recovering.

In July, Ecuador exported about 8,700 tons to China. As the COVID-19 virus was detected on the outer package of Ecuadorian shrimp, it affected dramatically Chinese consumers’ confidence in the imported shrimps.
