In Guangdong, China’s largest shrimp producing region, the average spot price of vannamei size 60 fell to RMB 55.00/kg ($8.14/kg) in week 19, a decrease of RMB 10.00/kg from the previous week. Prices are currently slightly lower than the same week in 2021.
Prices in other shrimp-producing areas in South China also declined, even to lower levels than those in Guangdong. In Hainan and Fujian, the price of size 80 is only RMB 40.00 kg, which is RMB 7.00 per kg lower than that in Guangdong.
Compared with the prices of the same size of India, Ecuador Thailand and Indonesia shrimp, the price of domestic vannamei is still much higher. The price gap is explained by the domestic live market (China domestic farmed shrimp mainly are live shrimp, so prices are expensive).
