Affected by China’s epidemic prevention and control and changes of market demand, China’s imports of Indian seafood dropped by more than 20% in 2020.
In 2020, China is India’s largest export market. India’s exports to China amounted to 329,479 tons, valued at 1.375 billion US dollars, accounting for 25.5% of India’s total exports and 20.6% of total value.
The President of the Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI) stated that the decline in China’s demand and the lack of containers have caused exports to China to drop by 20%. Many containers are stranded at the port causing Chinese importers to delay payment. The most affected seafood is the wild-caught fish such as yellow croaker and puffer fish consumed in China.
