ChinaTip #0512

After the national holiday, the consumption of live shrimp in some Chinese markets declined.

In Guangdong and Guangxi regions the trading shrimps volume after the holidays maintains at a medium level. The available shrimp amounts on the market are low, so the overall shrimp price in the region did not drop significantly. The shrimp farmers from these areas just started to grow 15-30 days and 40-50 days shrimp fry cultures.

At this time of the year, a more abundant supply should be expected in Rudong, Jiangsu. The price has been relatively stable in the past two weeks, but according to the current supply and demand situation, dealers believe that there is a greater possibility of a slight price drop in the later period.

Shrimp prices in Fujian Province, however, have risen significantly lately. The national holiday has ended and storage ponds are low for the wedding banquets concentrated during October-November. Local farmers mentioned that shrimp prices still have room to rise in a short period of time.
